38. In Your Dreams – Hédi Jaouad
Dream transcription has always played a major role in Surrealist literature and art.
Dream transcription has always played a major role in Surrealist literature and art. André Breton, the founder of Surrealism, bemoaned the underuse of the creative reservoir of dreams—he said it was “reduced to a mere parenthesis, as is the night.” Luis Buñuel, director of the still unforgettably shocking film, “The Andalusian Dog,” would have readily spent 22 hours of the day dreaming.
His acolyte Salvador Dalí never tired of boasting that all his art was merely an imitation of his own dreams whether they happened at night or in his wakeful hours. You’d be surprised to know that, according to Neuroscientists, we dream on average five hours a night.
